Arran is a great place to live and work, as such house sales are fairly competitive resulting in Housing on Arran being a bit more expensive than on the mainland, due also to the high quality of life enjoyed by islanders and the costs of transporting materials from the mainland.
Arran has something to suit everyone, however great strides in the provision, construction and choice of affordable housing has taken place in the last few years with the Arran Development Trust identifying five sizeable sites across the island.
This will help to extend a choice of Affordable Rent, Affordable Market and Self-Build Plots.
All the properties designed for sale or self-build will have a Rural Housing Burden placed on the title deed to ensure these homes remain affordable inperpetuity (must be a principal residence and not used as a holiday or second home).
Social Housing
There are three providers of social rented housing on Arran: Trust Housing Association, Riverside Scotland and North Ayrshire Council. North Ayrshire Council are currently building a mix of 36 x 2, 3 and 4 bedroom homes at Brathwic Terrace, Brodick and have a Local Lettings/Allocation Initiative for Arran.
Both North Ayrshire Council and Riverside Scotland operate a Common Housing Register and it is advised to register via either of the organisations websites. Trust Housing Association operate their own and separate register and again, it is advisable to register on this via their website.
